As you can probably tell by the title of this episode, The Gals had a discussion about velvet paintings today and things we awry. Don’t worry; it was in a hilarious way. This week you will learn a bit about the history of velvet paintings; the stigma attached to these works of art, the materials you will need to try one yourself, some tips to get you started, and how in the hell Katie and Loni even got on the topic of ghost vaginas.
Go check out the awesome Pintrest Board for this episode here.
Katie references a truly fascinating article from Collectors Weekly… If you want to learn more about Edgar Leeteg and his beautiful velvet paintings, and have a little more in depth look at he history of this art from we definitely recommend you give it a read.
We are in love with local Portland artist Chris Henry (he sounds like just our sort of guy). Go check out his page here, and if you happen to know him tell him that The Gals are fan girling pretty hard and would love to have him on the show!
And this magnificent beast was done by Alise, of Fluffy Bunny Art (and a fellow former Oregon Coastian). She shares some great process photos on her blog so make sure you click the image to learn all about her and how she created this bit of awesome.
Oh! We almost forgot! Here is the video of the man doing a velvet painting in Tijuana. This isn’t the last velvet painter one she was talking about… she got them confused. This is the awesome older man who rocked the painting.
