Sharon and Katie effing love mail art! They were so excited to start talking about the fun part of this topic that a formal definition/history lesson on Mail Art was thrown to the wind in the first three minutes (maybe even less). If you really want to know more about the origins of this form of artistic expression, here are the links to the articles Katie told you about, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mail_art and http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-mail-art.htm.
Let’s see… before we get to the example photos, what else do you need to know? Oh yeah, here is the link to Mike Monteiro’s “Fuck You, Pay Me” speech. It is actually a really great speech and anyone who has ever worked in a creative job should watch it. http://vimeo.com/22053820. What else…
Doh! Tyvek! That “stuff” Katie was trying to tell you about is called Tyvek. Here is a link to a page full of Tyvek plush dolls that are made to color on, http://www.alextoys.com//?s=color+%26+Cuddle&x=0&y=0. This actually kept her up for longer than it should have after they finished recording this episode.
Here are just a few examples of some of the Mail Art the gals talked about (For some reason we don’t have any pictures of Sharon’s mail art… things get crazy around here and stuff gets lost. We will blame this oversight on the heat we had last week… yeah… we lost our minds because it was in the 90s in May).
