We here at Two Artsy Gals would like to begin by declaring straightaway that we have absolutely no idea what in the hell got into Katie and Sharon while recording this episode. Obviously they set out to talk about paintbrushes, and they do! You will learn some basics about synthetic vs. natural hair brushes; brush shapes and jobs, brush sizes, and how to care for your brushes. However, you will also be hit by periodic bouts of untamed silliness and one rather large fit of uncontrollable laughter revolving around boobs (which has nothing to do with paintbrushes… we know).
The Gals began with some discussion on natural hair and synthetic hair brushes and the level of “what the fuck” going on is foretold by their Sable Martin sidebar. As promised, here is a picture of the face Sharon was making next to a picture on an actual Sable Martin. Sharon had to take and text this to us for the blog but Katie assures us that this is the “EXACT!” face Sharon was making. Oh, and here is a link to the wiki page for this little beast just in case you are that curious about it (the sable, not Sharon) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sable
When Katie went through her paintbrushes to take example pictures for this episode she realized that it is high time she get her ass to the art supply and buy new brushes! Being too ashamed to share pictures of her terrible looking brushes, she did a little research for example images and found this awesome PDF chart that Blick lets you download from their site for free! Check it out! http://www.dickblick.com/info/brushpdf/brushshapes.pdf
In another strange sidebar Katie told us about a Bob Ross documentary that she watched on her local PBS station a few weeks ago. It is called Bob Ross: The Happy Painter. If you want to hear the story behind his fantastical dude perm and learn how he is an even cooler guy than you thought, you can go to this site and enter your local PBS station information along with your cable provider stuff to find out if it will be airing any time soon in your area. http://www.aptonline.org/catalog.nsf/vLinkTitle/BOB+ROSS+THE+HAPPY+PAINTER
By now you have probably heard the crazy fit of hysterical laughter the gals had, sorry about that. Again… We. Have. No. Idea! We can only hope that all of you thought that was as hilarious as Sharon and Katie did. Honestly, they are still giggling about it.
Here is a link to The Masters Brush Cleaner and Preserver that they discussed after regaining their composure (sort of) http://www.dickblick.com/products/the-masters-brush-cleaner-and-preserver/, and if you need it, here is a link that breaks down how to wash your paintbrushes http://painting.about.com/cs/paintingknowhow/ht/Howto_Brushcare.htm.
Oh! And we almost forgot! In today’s listener mail Fran told us that Art-O-Mat was a national company and we did a little searching and found the website for you. Check it out and see if you can find one in your area http://www.artomat.org/!
If you have any comments or questions about this episode, the podcast in general, or some show ideas/requests please email The Gals at twoartsygals@gmail.com. Next week Katie and Sharon will be back to talk about phone apps for the modern artist so until then… Make some cool shit, yo!
