Katie and Sharon started off the show today with a little update on our Kickstarter progress. Counting the $200 cash that Katie’s mom mailed her for the “kicky thingy”, the total for our first week is $255. That is a great start but pretty far from our $1,500.00 goal. If you haven’t listened to the show yet make sure you do because The Gals give pretty great rundown of some of the things this funding will help with and ultimately explain how it will keep the show running. To watch our campaign video and donate today click below. Did you know if we were able to get 50 people to donate $25 each we would reach our goal??? Together we can do that in three week… don’t ya think?
They also announce some new stuff! We are now on Instagram and Pintrest! Woot! That means that you can follow us and keep up with The Gals and what is happening for the show four ways! Oh! One more big thing! We have a new letter now! Beginning May 1st we will be sending out a monthly news letter. We are still toying with what the letter will contain but we know that you will get the monthly episode schedule and some silly stories/photos in our “In The Studio” section. Now on to the encaustic painting… The Gals gave us a brief history lesson and told us what this ancient art form is all about at the top of the show. To get a look at the Faiyum Mummy Portraits Katie told us about check out this great Smithsonian article. They are so cool! The Enkastico brand also has a good history section, to learn more about encaustic painting history be sure to give that a read.
For tools and more paint/wax supplies make sure to visit encaustic.com and the RF Paints sites. You will find some rally interesting tools and beautiful paint options at these places. Also, make sure to check your local stores art supply stores and see what they have to offer in their encaustic sections. And here is a link to that studio set up video Katie talked about, it is pretty great.
Speaking of videos… Here is a link to the video Katie made for you. She explains the process in the episode but here you will see the step by step process of how she made the example for the show. Sorry about the noise of the heat gun!
